Simplifying the order-to-delivery line

We separated the exceptions in the flow. The bottleneck sat in the rule, not the person; the line simplified.

Between order and delivery there were many steps, and more exceptions. Every hard order opened a separate path. The line ran more on heroics than on rules.

Simplification is not changing software. It is writing which is standard and which is exception, and not folding the exception into the rule.

Delivery dates changed from person to person. The bottleneck was told as ‘volume’; it actually sat in approval and manual work.

What remained on the table

  • A single line definition
  • A standard / exception split
  • A short approval path
  • A delivery rhythm
