Choosing a cabinet finish that lasts
Paint, walnut, lacquer — the right finish is the one that will take a mark and still look like furniture in the fifth year.
A kitchen finish has to survive steam, hands and the odd chair back. We choose materials that age rather than peel, and we spray painted doors in the workshop so the site never marks them. A colour that looks calm in a sample can shout once it covers a whole run, so we always put a door in the actual room first.
Bring us a sample of how you cook and gather. We will put finishes on the table and talk about what will still look right after the first dinner, not only on handover day. If you want a kitchen that reads as furniture rather than a catalogue page, the finish is where that decision is made — and it is cheaper to get right on a sample door than on a finished wall.
