On a plot close to the Bosphorus, a house shaped by the movement of daylight. Mass, glass and garden come from the same decision.

The plan was set not to fill rooms, but to think how light would move through the house. South and west faces were left open; the living space was left at the same level as the garden.

The material palette is spare: open stone, wood and dark frames. The decisions inside remained a continuation of the language on the façade.

Decisions

Three decisions that held this work.

  • 01

    Taking light as the centre

South and west façades were left open. The living space was dropped to the same level as the garden, so it could follow the movement of the day.

  • 02

    Keeping the mass simple

The house stands around the light and the tree, rather than filling the plot. Glass, stone and dark frames come from the same decision.

  • 03

Linking the interior to the façade

The material palette continues inside. The garden is not a view; it is part of the plan.
