A house in the scale of Alaçatı, where an existing building was quietly renewed. New additions were placed without breaking the house’s rhythm.
First the building’s light, wall thicknesses and relation to the courtyard were read. What would be kept and what would be simplified became clear after this reading.
White plaster, stone floor and timber frames remained as a small number of decisions that carry the house’s existing character. Life inside opens outward through shaded thresholds.

Decisions
Three decisions that held this work.

Reading the existing building first
Light, wall thickness and the courtyard relation were kept. A house simplified, not erased.

Keeping the additions invisible
New decisions were placed without breaking the rhythm of the house. Old and new are not a forced contrast.

Protecting the shade
White plaster and thresholds soften the light of Alaçatı. Life opens to the courtyard from this shade.
