Automotive parts are not a process picked from a menu. Rotational geometry runs on the lathe, angled ports on 5-axis, approved cards drive serial output. The goal is not more machines; it is repeatability the line accepts.

Diameter steps and face surfaces on shafts, bushings, and flanges are written to the same chuck reference. Grinding allowance is left by design.

After first-article approval, station sequence is locked. On repeat orders, chuck, program, and measurement plan do not change.

In automotive work, a capability list is not a capacity poster. Diameter, position, and tool life sit on the same card.

Example
Stepped shaft machined for a power transmission line. Grinding allowance left on bearing diameters; spline and face measured on the same turning reference. After first-shaft approval, the card moved to serial.
Bolt circle and hub bore written to the same face reference. As the batch grew, chuck and program version did not change; in-process control ran at every tool change.
