Not an approximate mock-up. Assembly, tolerance, and workholding are seen with the alloy and tooling that will go to series.

Service
A sample is where assembly and tolerance are seen in the shop for the first time. It comes out in serial material and similar tooling strategy wherever possible. The fixture is not locked yet; workholding is removable and lessons are recorded.
Revision notes carry to the next part. The approved route is the draft of the serial card — not a separate showcase job.

Process
In prototyping, the process is the service itself. The goal is not a speed demo — it is a first part that can transfer to series.
Thin walls, clamping faces, and unmeasurable tolerances are flagged.
Serial alloy is used when possible. Equivalents are noted when used.
Revision does not close until assembly and critical dimensions are seen.
Tooling, workholding, and drift notes become serial card candidates.
Problem
A sample in mock-up material or different workholding does not validate assembly. If a batch opens before fixture and tool life are discussed, the first serial run stops. Prototype closes that gap.
Approach
A dedicated serial fixture is not required on the first part. Vise, pin, or soft jaw — repeatable enough to learn from, removable enough to change. Tool diameter and strategy are chosen close to series.

Thin walls, sharp internal corners, and unclamped faces are flagged upfront.
A few dimensions that lock assembly are written. Not every box is measured — critical ones close.
Approved notes move to turning, milling, or 5-axis cards.

Application
Control unit cover
Three aluminum covers were produced in serial alloy for a mobility control unit. The gasket plane and connector window were measured; chatter marks appeared on a thin wall and the toolpath was revised. When the fourth part seated in assembly, the same notes were written as series candidates.

Scope
Matching cover, body, or shaft seen in place.
Workholding, tooling, and thin-wall risk are recorded.
Critical dimensions close with documentation. Unwritten boxes do not count as delivered.
Changed toolpath and workholding carry to the next piece.
Industries
Prototype Manufacturing rarely runs alone. Geometry and quantity open the adjacent line.
If drawing and material are clear, we produce the DFM note and first-article plan together.
